Reflexive pronouns are words like myself, yourself, himself, ourselves, themselves. They are used when the complement of the verb is the same as the subject. I'm not very good at explaining grammar so let's have a look at an example:
I hurt myself trying to open the door (je me suis blessé en essayant d'ouvrir la porte)
We can also use it to emphasise someone or something:
She couldn't do it, so I had to do it myself. (elle pouvait pas le faire, donc je l'ai fait moi-même)
I demanded to see the manager himself. (=not any employee but the manager) - J'ai exigé de voir le directeur lui-même.
Reciprical pronouns are different, and this can cause problems for French speakers.
In English we use phrases like each other, one another.
Bill et mary s'aiment beaucoup - Bill and Mary love each other a lot (=Bill loves Mary and Mary loves Bill)
a common mistake would be:Bill and Mary love themselves
This would mean that Bill loves himself(Bill!) and Mary loves herself(Mary!)
Now take this test to see if you've understood
reciprical pronouns and reflexive pronouns
